Comment est né Skatouze Monde ?
Luc : À la base, c’était un blog. Un Skyblog !
Ah, ça a commencé par un blog.
Léo : Un Skyblog ! C’est important de préciser !
C’était en réaction aux médias établis, vous ne vous retrouviez pas dans ce qui existait ?
Luc : Je ne saurais pas trop te dire… On disait juste de la merde ! Dommage qu’il soit perdu à tout jamais quelque part dans l’internet.
Léo : T’es sûr ?
Luc : Ah oui, tu peux chercher, tu ne le trouveras pas… Mais je ne sais pas pourquoi on chiait sur tout ! On faisait les trolls… c’est comme ça qu’on dit, non ? On attendait que les mecs réagissent, parce que ce qui était bien, c’est qu’il y avait les commentaires.
C’était qui les mecs sur qui vous tapiez ?
Luc : C’était surtout des vidéos, des trucs comme ça… ça nous faisait marrer.

Ça existe peu dans le skate, des gens qui se foutent de la gueule des gens ouvertement…
Léo : si, tu l’as, mais pas trop sur papier.
Luc : C’est pas ouvert ! Mais c’est vrai qu’entre ça et aller chier sur le spot sur les gars, c’est pas pareil ! C’est quand même un bon truc de lâche, internet !
Est-ce que vous aviez une tête de turc ?
Luc : On en avait plein ! À une époque, Dyrdek nous faisait bien kiffer !
Pourquoi ?
Luc : il nous agaçait bien avec la Street League !
Vous étiez ce qu’on appelle des haters.
Luc : Complètement.
Et aujourd’hui ?
Luc : Moins… Je ne prends même plus le temps de lire ce qui se passe dans le skate, je m’en fous… À l’époque on était des gros nerds, on passait notre vie sur Internet avec David (Lestrade).
Comment vous en êtes arrivés à faire ça sur papier ?
Luc : Attends, on a fait un premier blog qui a planté, un deuxième, un troisième, à chaque fois on perdait les mots de passe et à un moment, on s’est dit qu’on allait faire un fanzine. Je crois que ça nous faisait kiffer de le faire sur papier, que ça reste… Et on avait envie de faire des pubs à la con !
Qu’est-ce qui vous faisait marrer, dans le skate ? Vos influences ?
Luc : Freestyler ! J’étais ado, c’était génial ! C’était à chaque fois la poilade !
Est-ce qu’il y a un article en particulier qui te reste en tête ?
Luc : Oui, un article d’un tour en Italie où ils avaient accablé Chandelle ! C’était tellement drôle, tellement méchant ! C’était trop bien ! Après, on aimait bien le courrier des lecteurs, Rénato… Y’avait plein de trucs bien dans Freestyler.
En gros, vous avez lancé votre truc au moment où Freestyler est mort.
Luc : C’est mort en quelle année ?
Fin 2006.
Luc : Donc ouais, c’est possible.
Vous vous retrouviez surtout dans Freestyler, donc.
Luc : J’en ai plein, quand je les relis, je me marre à coup sûr !
Et toi, Léo ?
Léo : Freestyler, oui, et Chill par la suite, c’était bien cool aussi, ça. Et puis les trucs de Hara-Kiri, ça nous donnait des bonnes idées… On avait envie de mélanger les deux mondes…
Luc : C’est surtout qu’on avait envie de rigoler…
Le skate devenait trop sérieux…
Luc : Oui, clairement.
Big Brother, ça vous parle ?
Luc : Ça me parle, je connais, mais je ne faisais pas encore de skate. J’ai lu des articles après coup, c’était bien bargeot !
Aujourd’hui, qu’est-ce que vous détestez dans le skate ?
Luc : Moi, quasi tout. Vraiment. Je n’ai pas internet chez moi, je suis heureux comme un coq ! On mate parfois des vidéos, il y a des gars qui skatent bien, mais quand je vais sur les spots à Toulouse, j’ai envie de partir en courant les trois quarts du temps. Il n’y a pas de poilade, j’ai pas l’impression que les mecs se marrent.
Léo : Ça se prend trop au sérieux…
Luc : Les mecs savent faire hardflip backlip, c’est bien, mais comment tu partages l’amour du skate ? Non, mais il y a quand-même plein de trucs qui me font kiffer !
Une marque comme Palace, par exemple, ça vous parle ?
Luc : Il skate pour Palace, Chewy Cannon ?
Oui.
Luc : Alors respect pour Palace ! Il a fait une part’ sur de la drum’n bass, le gars a eu des couilles ! C’est un tabou, de faire une part’ sur de la drum’n bass !

Luc : Oui, sur Sizzla, ça défonçait ! Matt Field aussi, il a eu des parts sur Sizzla.
Vous êtes un peu bloqués sur les années 90, non ?
Luc : On a commencé vers 97 ou 98, oui… Mais bon, ce qui m’énerve dans le skate, c’est la mode, sous quelque forme que ce soit : la mode des tricks, la mode des fringues, le formatage, quoi. Alors que tu ne fais pas du skate pour faire comme tout le monde…
D’où ça vient, ‚Skatouze Monde‘ ?
Luc : On te traitait pas de skatouze, au lycée ?
Non… et pourquoi ‘monde’ ?
Luc : Parce qu’au début, on avait fait ‘skatouze world’, on trouvait ça cool et puis on s’est dit un jour qu’on allait le franciser.
Combien de numéros vous avez faits ?
Luc : deux en six ans ! On a mis ‘freemestriel’ dessus !
Quel est l’article qui a eu le plus de succès ?
Léo : L’article sur MDV, non ? À l’époque où il avait son blog… Grosse inspiration, lui !
Luc : Il me faisait pleurer de rire ! Avec toutes les fautes… c’est le 8ème art, lui !
Ah ah ! J’aime bien mais je suis contre les fautes d’orthographe !
Luc : Moi non-plus j’aime pas les fautes, mais là, c’est de l’art !
Léo : Si ça se trouve il le travaille…

Je crois qu’il ne fait pas exprès… Ce serait qui, l’interview que vous rêveriez de faire ?
Luc : Yves. C’est un pote à nous, c’est un pirate total ! Son kif c’est d’aller skater dans un supermarché. « Viens, ça roule bien ! ». Et au passage, il te chourre un autoradio ! Ah ah ! Du coup, on va faire une interview de lui. On va se poiler ! Ce ne sera pas une interview où le gars cite ses sponsors et où il raconte qu’il est content d’être allé en Chine faire du footage, là il va y avoir du propos, ça va fuser !
Est-ce qu’il y a eu des gens qui ont été blessés et qui ont voulu vous péter la gueule ?
Luc : Je crois qu’on a jamais vraiment taclé quelqu’un, à part quelques pros ricains. On n’en veut pas aux mecs en particulier, c’est plus à la masse… T’en penses quoi, Léo ?
Léo : En fait, ça se passait dans les commentaires du blog…
Luc : Ouais, on insultait parfois des mecs dans les commentaires et il y avait clairement des gars qui voulaient nous péter la gueule. J’avais même laissé une fois mon numéro en disant « venez, je vous attends » ! Personne m’a appelé !
Léo : Après le mec qui est prêt à te dire qu’il va te péter la gueule en commentaire, il ne fera jamais rien…
Donc au final, en faisant un fanzine, vous vous priviez de tous ces commentaires…
Léo : C’est pas faux.
Luc : Oui, mais c’est plus kiffant de faire un fanzine qu’un blog. Avec un blog, t’es tout seul devant un écran… Un fanzine, t’es ensemble, tu colles des tranches de chorizo sur la gueule des Espagnols, c’est rigolo !

How did Skatouze Monde got to life?
Luc : At first it was a blog. A Skyblog ! (classic teenagers’ blog, 2000’s – EN)
Ah, so it started with a blog.
Léo : No, a Skyblog! It’s important to make the difference!
Was it a reaction to official skate medias, that you wouldn’t fit with their opinions?
Luc : I’m not sure… We were just talking shit. Too bad it’s gone forever lost somewhere in the Internet.
Léo : are you sure about that?
Luc : oh yeah, you can search the Internet, you won’t find it… But I don’t know why we talked shit on everything! We were trolls… that what it is, right ? We were waiting for reactions, because what was good about it was comments.
Who were the guys you would hate on?
Luc : it was mostly videos, stuff like that… It was funny.
It’s not that common in skateboarding for people to make fun of other people openly…
Léo : of course it is, but not on paper.
Luc : Not openly! And it’s true that what we did and going on the spot to talk straight to the guy, it’s different! Internet is such a coward’s thing!
Did you have a scapegoat?
Luc : we had many ! At some point Rob Dyrdek was a hot topic!
Why?
Luc : he was so annoying with the Street League thing!
You were what we call haters.
Luc : For sure!
And today ?
Luc : a little less. I’m not even aware of what’s going on in skateboarding, I don’t care… Back then we were nerds, we would spend our life online with David (Lestrade).
How did you end up printing this ?
Luc : Well, we had a first blog that bugged, a second one, a third one, and each time we’d lose the password and at some point we were like ‘let’s do a zine’. I think we were happy to make something on paper that would stay… And we wanted to make stupid fake ads!
What’s funny, to your eyes, in skateboarding, what are your influences ?
Luc : Freestyler magazine (French, 1993-2006 – EN) ! I was a teenager, it was so good! Each time it would be so funny !
Is there one article in particular that got stuck in your mind ?
Luc : yes, a tour in Italy where they’d kill Chandelle (Christophe Diaz – EN)! It was so naughty and funny, so good! We’d also enjoy reading the readers’ mails that Renato would answer (Renato AKA Alexandre Deron – EN)… There was a lot of good things in Freestyler.
You basically started your blog when Freestyler died.
Luc : when did it die?
At the end of the year 2006.
Luc : that sounds right.
So you really liked Freestyler.
Luc : I have so many copies. When I read one today, I still laugh, for sure!
What about you, Léo?
Léo : Yeah, Freestyler. And Chill (French magazine, 2004-2006 – EN) was good too. And stuff like Hara-Kiri (former Charlie Hebdo, 1960-1985 – EN) that would give us ideas… We wanted to mix both worlds (inside and outside skateboarding…
Luc : We just wanted to have fun…
Skateboarding was getting too serious for you?
Luc : yeah, that’s for sure.
Does Big Brother mean anything to you ?
Luc : I know about it, but I wasn’t skating, yet. I read articles afterwards. It was crazy !
Today, what do you hate in skateboarding ?
Luc : I hate almost everything. Really. I don’t have an internet connection at home and I’m happy about it. Sometimes we watch videos with some good skating in it but when I get on a spot in Toulouse, I just felt like I want to run away most of the times. There is no fun. I don’t think these guys have fun (skateboarding – EN).
Léo : they take themselves too seriously…
Luc : Some guys can hard flip backlip, that’s good, but how do you share the love for skateboarding ? But still, there are things that I like.
Stuff like Palace, does that mean anything to you ?
Luc : Is Chewy Cannon on Palace ?
Yes.
Luc : so much respect to Palace! He’s had a part with some Drum’n bass, this guy has balls! He broke a taboo!

Luc : Yeah, with Sizzla, it was so amazing ! Matt Field also had a part with Sizzla.
It seems that you guys are locked into the 90’s.
Luc : we started skateboarding in 97 or 98… But what I don’t like in skateboarding are all the trends : trick trends, clothing, labelling. You started skating not to be like everyone else…
Where does the name Skatouze World (something like Skatefag World in English – EN) come from?
Luc : you wouldn’t be called a ‘skate fag’, back at school?
Not really… Why « monde »?
Luc : Because at first it was ‘Skatouze World’, but after a while we decided to turn it into French.
How many issues have you put out?
Luc : Two issues in 6 years!
Which article had the most successful?
Léo : the one about MDV (Nicolas Levet – EN), I think. Back when he had his blog… He was a great influence!
Luc : I would cry with laughter at all the spelling mistakes! It was true art!
Ah ah! I liked it but not the spelling mistakes!
Luc : I don’t like that either but it was really an art form!
Léo : Maybe he would work on it…
I don’t think he does in on purpose… Who would you love to have an interview with?
Luc : our friend Yves. He’s a true pirate! What he likes is skating in supermarkets. He’s like « common, it’s so smooth ! » And, by the way, he steals a car stereos! Ah ah ! So we’re gonna interview him. It’s gonna be so funny. It’s not gonna be the kind of interview where you talk about sponsors and the fact that he’s filmed his last part in China. There’s gonna be some real shit in there!
Has someone ever wanted to fight you for something that you wrote ?
Luc : I don’t think that we talked too much shit on anyone in particular, besides a couple American pros. It’s not about someone in particular, it’s more about crowds… What do you think, Léo ?
Léo : Well it was all happening in the blog’s comments…
Luc : yeah, we would sometimes insult people in the comments and there would be guys that wanted to beat us up. I even gave them my number and told them « Anytime, I’m waiting for you »! But no one called!
Léo : the guy that tells you he’s gonna beat you up will never do it…
But doing a zine, you would cut yourself from comments.
Léo : that’s right…
Luc : Yeah, but it was better to do a zine than a blog. With a blog, it’s just you with your computer… When you do a zine, you’re not alone and you stick chorizo slices on the Spanish guys faces, haha! (they did this on a photo shot in Algorta, Spain – EN)
