Before trying that switch tré on the big seven at EMB, did you even try another trick ?
No, I didn’t. We were there at the end of the day, skated all day with Lance Dawes, it was just us two. I started trying it and was getting close, I had a HI8 video camera, it was Natas’s camera from the 101 video. I asked Lance to film it, he didn’t shoot it. Jovantae showed up, I landed it, then he made fun of my pants.
You’re one of the only west coast skaters who left a mark at Brooklyn Banks, with a nollie BS heel. Do you remember that session ?
Carroll was there, didn’t he do a FS flip over it ? It didn’t take too long, maybe within 20 tries. It was funny, we were there in NYC for two weeks and that was one of the only tricks our whole crew got. Aaron Meza was there filiming, York, Carroll, Ferguson, Huf and Keenan.
„YOU’RE JUST OUT THERE DANGLING“
Lance Mountain says on the Chrome Ball Incident that you landed once a fandangle on a ledge for real shortly after the ad came out. Who came up with that name and what does it mean ?
I think I might have landed one messing around. I was trying to figure out if you could actually land the fandangle. I think it was at a ledge at the Girl warehouse. Rick Howard made up the name, you’re just out there dangling. He just used it as a way to describe throwing a trick out there without the intention of making it or might not even be possible.
In the background of the photo of your TWS BSNBS cover is standing Rick Howard. Mike Blabac told me he was trying a trick too, but couldn’t tell me which. What was it ?
I honestly don’t remember what he was trying. He could have been trying a FS shuvit BS nosegrind, but he didn’t make anything that day.
When’s last time you remember doing a 540 ?
Making it ? Does a nolie one count ? If so at a demo in Perth off a quarterpipe into a bank, back in 2004ish.

Avant d’essayer le switch tré sur le big seven à EMB, est-ce que tu avais essayé un autre trick ?
Non. On y était allé en fin de journée après avoir skaté toute la journée avec Lance Dawes. On était juste tous les deux. J’avais commencé à essayer et comme je n’étais pas loin de le rentrer, j’avais demandé à Lance de le filmer avec la caméra HI8 de Natas que j’avais, celle de la vidéo 101. Il n’avait même pas fait la photo. Jovantae (Turner) était arrivé, j’ai fait le switch tré et il s’était moqué de mon pantalon !
Tu es l’un des seuls skaters originaires de la côte ouest à avoir laissé une marque à Brooklyn Banks avec un nollie BS heelflip. Est-ce que tu te souviens de cette session ?
Ça n’avait pas pris trop de temps, peut-être une vingtaine d’essais. C’était marrant, on était à New York pour deux semaines et c’est l’un des seuls tricks qu’on avait réussi à faire, avec Mike York, Carroll, Tony Ferguson, Huf, Keenan Milton et Aaron Meza qui filmait. Mike Carroll n’avait pas fait FS flip, aussi ?
Lance Mountain raconte sur The Chrome Ball Incident que tu as vraiment rentré le fandangle sur un ledge après la sortie de la pub Girl. Qui a trouvé ce nom et qu’est-ce que ça veut dire ?
Je crois que j’en ai fait un en sans vraiment le vouloir. C’était sur un ledge à la Girl Warehouse, et j’essayais de voir si c’était possible. C’est Rick Howard qui a trouvé le nom, ça vient de ‚dangling‚, il avait l’habitude de dire ça quand tu essayais un trick sans vraiment avoir l’intention de le faire, ou même en pensant que c’était impossible.
Au second plan de la photo du BSNBS à Hubba Hideout on apperçoit Rick Howard. Mike Blabac disait qu’il essayait aussi un trick mais ne se souvenait pas duquel. Tu t’en souviens ?
Honnêtement, je ne m’en souviens pas. Peut-être que c’était un FS shove it BS nosegrind, mais il n’avait rien rentré ce jour-là.
À quand remonte ton dernier 540 ?
Rentré ? Est-ce que ça compte en nollie ? Si oui, c’était à une démo à Perth en sortant d’une quarter, replaqué dans un plan incliné, vers 2004 !
