[highlight]1_[/highlight]Je t’ai croisé plusieurs fois en Europe ces derniers mois. Est-ce que tu es resté ou est-ce que tu fais des aller-retours ?
Je suis resté. J’ai sous-loué ma chambre pour trois mois à New York et je me suis baladé, j’ai squatté chez des potes un peu partout en Europe. En fait, mon voyage a commencé le 31 mai. Je me suis fait inviter sur un tour Redbull au Kirghizistan pour deux semaines et quand ils m’ont demandé la date où je souhaitais rentrer, je leur ai dit que je voulais rester le plus longtemps possible en Europe, donc 90 jours.

[highlight]2_[/highlight]Les États-Unis sont sensés être le pays de la liberté où tout est possible. Qu’est-ce qui rend l’Europe intéressante, pour toi ?
L’Europe est le VRAI pays de la liberté. Les États-Unis ne sont pas si libres, c’est juste une illusion. Je pense que le coin le plus libre est la Californie. J’habite à New York mais je vais retourner à San Francisco, je viens de dire à mes potes qu’ils pouvaient garder ma chambre. Tous les autres états sont à l’opposé du concept de liberté, surtout à New York. C’est une chouette ville, j’adore New York mais tu te prends des amendes juste pour skater dans la rue, boire une bière ou fumer une cigarette dans un parc public… New York sera toujours pour moi « la maison » („home ») mais ce n’est pas si libre. Il y a des avantages et des inconvénients…

[highlight]3_[/highlight]Comment tu te sens, en Europe ?
Quand je suis en Europe, je me sens libre. J’ai l’impression que je peux faire tout ce dont j’ai envie. Je peux sortir en portant les vêtements les plus dingues et personne ne pensera que tu es cinglé, parce que tout le monde est cinglé ici ! D’une bonne ou d’une mauvaise manière ! Tout le monde est tranquille, je fais mon truc, tu fais ton truc, je te respecte, tu me respectes… Aux Etats-Unis, je trouve qu’il y a beaucoup plus de jugement. Plus de « qui fait quoi », « qu’est-ce qui est cool ou pas », on vit dans le putain de « pays du cool » ! Ici tout le monde s’en fout, c’est très ouvert, tu peux faire ce que tu veux…
Tant que tu ne fais pas n’importe quoi…
Bien-sûr, il y a une ligne et un équilibre mais je veux dire que les flics ne te harcèlent pas, ou pas autant qu’aux Etats-Unis…

Oui, bien-sûr, c’est même déjà prévu. Probablement en Espagne parce que c’est pas cher, je parle espagnol et j’ai plein de potes à Barcelone. C’est confortable, là-bas, ça me rappelle beaucoup l’endroit où j’ai grandi à Miami et c’est le paradis du skate. J’adorerais vivre ici (Paris) mais c’est cher, et le français est trop difficile à apprendre… Donc oui, après SF où je veux aller bosser sur la vidéo de mon pote et squatter son canapé, je compte venir m’installer par ici.
[highlight]5_[/highlight]Quel stéréotype des français s’est avéré complètement vrai ?
C’est une question difficile… Ah oui, les femmes. La plupart se la racontent à mort. Genre « t’es qui ? Tu veux quoi ? ». C’est un stéréotype, mais la plupart des femmes aiment bien jouer à ce jeu du « j’ai besoin de plus que ça », ou du « combien tu gagnes ? »… Pourtant j’ai rencontré une fille qui était vraiment cool, mais qui est retournée avec son ancien mec, donc je suis un peu dégouté !

[highlight]1_[/highlight]I’ve seen you in Europe a few times in the last months. Did you stay or have you been going back and forth ?
I stayed. I rented out my room for 3 months in New York and I’ve just been floating around, staying with friends all over Europe. My journey actually started on may 31st. I got invited in Kirghizistan for 2 weeks on a Redbull trip and they asked when I wanted to go back, and I told them I wanted to stay as long as I can in Europe which was 90 days.
[highlight]2_[/highlight]The US are supposed to be the land of the free, where anything is possible. What makes Europe so interesting for you ?
Europe is the REAL land of the free. America isn’t so free, it’s all a gimmick. I feel like California is probably the freest state in America. I live in New York now, I’m actually making my way back to San Francisco, I gave my room up before I came here. I just told my friends „hey you can keep my room“. All the other states are quite the opposite of freedom, especially in New York. It’s a great city, I love New York but you get ticketed for skating in the street, for drinking a beer, for smoking a cigarette in a public park… New York will always be a home to me but it’s not that free. It’s got its pros and cons…
[highlight]3_[/highlight]How do you feel in Europe ?
When I’m in Europe I feel free. I feel like I can do whatever the fuck I want. I can walk out wearing some crazy outfit and no one’s gonna be like „this guy is out of his mind“ because every one’s out of his fucking mind down here ! In a good or bad way ! Every one is mellow out here, I’m doing my thing, you’re doing your thing, I respect you, you respect me… In America, I feel like there’s a lot more judgement. There’s a lot more „who’s doing what“, „what’s cool or not“, we live in the fucking „land of cool“ ! No one gives a fuck out here, it’s very open, you can do whatever you want…
As long as you don’t go crazy…
Of course, there’s a thin line and a balance but I mean cops don’t hassle you, or not as much as in the US…
[highlight]4_[/highlight]Could you live here, and where ?
Yeah, absolutely, it’s already like a plan. In Spain because it’s cheap, I speak spanish and I have a lot of friends in Barcelona. I’m very confortable there, it reminds me a lot of where I grew up in Miami and it’s like skate heaven. I would love live here (Paris) but it’s expensive, and french is so hard to learn… So yeah, after SF where I want to work on my friend’s video and live on his couch, I’ll try to make it out here.
[highlight]5_[/highlight]What stereotype of the french people turned out real ?
That’s a tough question… Oh yeah, the women. Most of them are very like their shit don’t stink ! Like „who are you ? Don’t talk to me“. That’s a stereotype, most of the women like to play this game „I need more than this“, „do you make a lot of money ?“… I met a woman who was actually really cool, but she got back with her old boyfriend, so I’m kind of bummed.
