Öctagon est un projet vidéo mené par Joaquim Bayle, Clément Vanpeperstraete et Nicolas Decatoire, qui si l’on s’en tient aux propos ci-dessous, promet d’être original. Voici quelques infos sympathiquement dévoilées par Joaquim, à qui l’on doit par ailleurs la vidéo Zeropolis XV Years.

[highlight]1_[/highlight]Comment tu t’es retrouvé à faire la vidéo Zeropolis ?
J’ai fait des stages à Zeropolis et juste après, Valentin (Bauer) a commencé à skater pour le shop. Ensuite il a travaillé là-bas, on a commencé à filmer ensemble, je me suis cassé la cheville et il a proposé à Fred (Lefrancq, le patron du shop) de faire une vidéo. J’ai récupéré toutes les archives de Fred, des disques durs énormes d’images qui n’avaient jamais été utilisées. C’était incroyable de pouvoir monter ça, même si on ne voulait montrer que des trucs de la région (nord). C’était quand-même hallucinant de retrouver les images de Flo Marfaing en switch front blunt à La Défense par exemple… Heureusement, tout était déjà « dérushé », le plus gros problème était qu’il y avait plein de formats différents, mais rien n’était sorti…
[highlight]2_[/highlight]Tu es originaire d’où ?
Je viens d’Arras, à une demi-heure de Lille. Pour l’anecdote, quand j’étais gamin, Alex (Van Hoecke) venait skater à Arras et j’ai retrouvé les footages de lines qu’il avait fait un jour où j’étais là. C’était marrant de retrouver ça… J’ai commencé à venir à Lille pour mes stages et mes études, et puis j’ai rencontré Joseph (Biais) quand il vivait à Lille…

[highlight]3_[/highlight]C’est quoi Öctagon ?
C’est un projet vidéo que je réalise avec deux très bon amis (Nicolas Decatoire et Clément Vanpé), une vidéo qui inclut du skate, avec tout un côté narratif. C’est un truc fictif, dont le nom est l’univers dans lequel se déroule l’histoire… Mais je ne veux pas trop en dévoiler. L’idée était de réaliser une vidéo différente et qui ait du sens, rien dans la vidéo n’est laissé au hasard. L’important est vraiment d’apporter un truc en plus et pas seulement une vidéo…

Ah, pour le coup tu mets le doigt sur quelque chose… il y a plus de huit riders ! À la base je voulais me concentrer sur 3 personnes, Joseph, Valentin et Edouard Depaz, et puis il y’a eu Bram (De Cleen) parce qu’il avait aussi envie de faire un truc différent, et puis j’ai filmé avec des gars qui m’ont suivi lors des différents voyages, et puis les zincs (les potes) de Joseph, de Valentin et de Bram…

[highlight]5_[/highlight]Sous quelle forme sortira la vidéo ?
On fera une avant-première à Berlin en janvier puis à Lille et une autre à Paris. On la mettra ensuite en ligne mais je ne sais pas encore exactement où, je suis en train de voir pour les partenariats… Pour l’instant, le DVD n’est pas prévu même si ce serait cool. On est encore dans la réalisation, les enregistrements des voix avec le groupe Primat… on verra plus tard pour le support. Ce qui est sûr c’est que l’avant première aura lieu au Bright !

[highlight]1_[/highlight]How did you end up working on the Zeropolis video ?
I had done a couple of internships at the shop and then Valentin (Bauer) started skating for them. Afterwards, when he started to work there we were already filming together. At some point I broke my ankle and he suggested to Fred (Lefrancq, Zeropolis owner) to release a video. I had access to all Fred’s archival footage, huge hard-drives with stuff that had never been used before. It was incredible to go through all of that, even if we only wanted to use things that were filmed in the North of France. It was crazy stumbling upon footage of Flo Marfaing switch frontside bluntsliding La Défense for example. Luckily, all of the footage had been captured already, the biggest problem was that everthing was in different formats, but none of it had been seen …
[highlight]2_[/highlight]Where are you originally from ?
I’m from Arras, a little town half an hour away from Lille . Just for the story, when I was a little kid, Alex (Van Hoecke) would come down to skate once in a while and I found some footage that they had filmed on a day that I was there as well. It was funny seeing that again. I started going to Lille because of the school and internships, and then I met Joseph (Biais) back when he used to live there.
[highlight]3_[/highlight]What is Öctagon ?
Öctagon is a video project I’m working on with two good friends of mine (Nicolas Decatoire et Clement Vanpé). It’s going to be a video that features skateboarding, but it also has a narrative side to it. It is fictitious, the name is the universe in which the story unfolds. But I don’t want to give too much of the story away. The idea is a video that is a bit different and that makes sense, every aspect of it planned out. The goal is to do something extra, not just « doing a video ».
[highlight]4_[/highlight]Öctagon, I suppose eight people are involved ?
Ah, here you’re pointing something… there is more than eight riders. At first, I wanted to focus on 3 skaters : Joseph, Valentin and Edouard Depaz, and Bram (De Cleen) got added to the project because he also wanted to do something different. I filmed as well with people who followed us during different trips and also with Joseph’s homies, Valentin’s homies, Bram’s…
[highlight]5_[/highlight]What will be the format of the video ?
Will have a premier in Berlin in January, then one in Lille and one in Paris. Then we’ll put it online, but I don’t know exactly where, I am currently figuring things out with partenships… For now, I am not planning to press any DVD even if that would be cool. We’re still filming, recording voices with the band Primat… we’ll see later for the format. What’s for sure though, is the premiere at the Bright tradeshow.
